Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has made pointed remarks regarding the ongoing treason case against opposition leader Kizza Besigye, drawing renewed attention to the politically sensitive matter.
In a series of statements shared on social media, Muhoozi likened Besigye’s alleged actions against President Yoweri Museveni to religious betrayal, framing it in strongly charged language.
He stated: “What Col.Dr.KB did against our father, Mzee Museveni, in our NRA/UPDF religion is equivalent to a Christian becoming a believer in Sitani. He will not escape his just sentence!”
He further added that while he respected Besigye for his earlier service in the military, his current standing, in Muhoozi’s view, had fundamentally changed.
“I respect Col.Dr.KB for the things he did before he became a traitor. But we will hang him very soon,” he said in the same communication.
Muhoozi also signalled he would not continue engaging on the matter, describing Besigye in dismissive terms.
“This is my last time talking about Col.Dr.Besigye. He is an insignificant insect in the Uganda of today,” he added.
The remarks come at a time when Besigye’s legal and political future remains under intense scrutiny following treason allegations that have continued to polarise public opinion in Uganda.
The case has also reignited debate over the relationship between the country’s military establishment and opposition politics.
