A heated exchange on social media has seen Sedrack Nzaire Kaguta, a close relative of President Yoweri Museveni, dismiss claims that he could flee into exile should the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) lose power.
The debate erupted after an X user questioned whether Nzaire was preparing to seek refuge in Turkey in the event of a political transition in Uganda.
The user wrote: “Are you planning on going to Turkey as refugees when NRM falls???”
In a sharp and dismissive response, Nzaire rejected the suggestion, defending both his political standing and the legacy of the NRM administration.
“Haha, Turkey as refugees when NRM falls? Bro, we’re not the ones packing suitcases every election cycle like it’s a bad Nollywood script,” he responded.
He went on to credit the ruling party for Uganda’s stability and long-term governance record, arguing that critics have repeatedly predicted the downfall of the government since 1986 without success.
“NRM built this house from bush to stability, while doomsayers have been predicting ‘the fall’ since 1986 and we’re still here serving Kisanja No More Sleep,” he added.
Nzaire further insisted that the country remains on a path of progress under the current leadership, rejecting the idea that ruling party figures would be forced into exile.
“Look around my guy James Ogwan. The vision is eternal, the base is solid, and Uganda’s moving forward. No refugee arc needed when you’re winning. Keep dreaming, we’ll keep delivering,” he stated.
The remarks reflect growing political tensions in online spaces where supporters and critics of the NRM frequently clash over governance, succession politics, and the future of President Museveni’s long rule.
The X Post;
While opposition voices continue to question the durability of the current system, NRM-aligned figures like Nzaire maintain that the movement remains firmly in control and far from collapse narratives often circulated by critics on social media.
