Questions are mounting in Uganda over the whereabouts of Janet Museveni, after she failed to appear for key official engagements, including parliamentary vetting and the presidential swearing-in ceremony, raising uncertainty about her assumption of office.
According to Daily Monitor reporting under the headline “Where is Janet?”, Museveni did not present herself for the two-day vetting exercise for ministerial nominees, despite being listed as Education minister-designate.
Her absence raised questions over whether she would be able to take her oath of office as scheduled.
The concern first emerged when Museveni failed to appear for the parliamentary vetting exercise for ministerial nominees.
According to official updates, out of 82 nominated ministers, 80 were approved, one was rejected, and one did not show up for vetting—Museveni being the absent nominee.
The uncertainty deepened after she was also not seen during President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on May 12, 2026.
The President instead arrived accompanied by their daughter, Natasha Karugire.
Since then, there has been no formal communication from State House explaining her absence, a silence that has fuelled speculation across political and public spaces.
However, no verified information has been issued confirming any illness or official withdrawal from government duties.
The lack of clarity now places attention on whether she will be present at the ministers’ swearing-in ceremony or whether her portfolio will remain in limbo pending further official direction.
Political observers note that absences at such high-level state functions often trigger public concern, especially when no formal explanation is provided.
Still, they caution against drawing conclusions without confirmed statements from government authorities.
All eyes remain on whether one of Uganda’s longest-serving public figures will re-emerge in the public spotlight or continue her absence from official engagements.
