“‘You Were Beaten and Subjected to Humiliation": NUP Activist Sends Emotional Message to Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard Eddie Mutwe Amid Continued Detention

A fresh wave of political tension has emerged after National Unity Platform (NUP) activist Sir Dan Magic issued an emotional message to jailed opposition bodyguard Eddie Mutwe, who remains in custody months after his controversial arrest and reported abduction.

Mutwe, a close aide to NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi, was allegedly abducted in April 2025 by armed men before later resurfacing in detention, where he faced charges linked to robbery and assault.

His arrest triggered widespread condemnation from opposition figures and human rights groups, who accused security agencies of targeting political supporters.

In his message, Sir Dan Magic described Mutwe’s ordeal as a prolonged period of suffering and humiliation, claiming he was subjected to severe abuse during detention.

He alleged that Mutwe was beaten and degraded in a manner that violated basic human dignity, sentiments that have previously been echoed by opposition leaders and rights activists.

“It’s been over a year since you were abducted on the orders of the President’s son, Muhoozi. You were beaten, stripped, and subjected to humiliation no human being should ever endure. It is sad, horrifying, and deeply painful to witness such injustice,” he stated.

The activist further questioned the independence of Uganda’s justice system, arguing that the judiciary appears constrained in handling cases involving individuals linked to the country’s ruling establishment.

His remarks reflect long-standing concerns raised by opposition groups over the handling of politically sensitive prosecutions.

“But to this day, you remain behind bars on his orders. The judiciary, which should protect the rights of every citizen, appears powerless when those entrusted with justice are perceived to be under the influence of the First Family,” he added.

Sir Dan Magic also warned that those allegedly involved in human rights violations would one day be held accountable, insisting that impunity would not last indefinitely.

His message, however, remains an expression of opinion and has not been independently verified by judicial authorities.

“Trust me, one day, all injustices will come to an end. Those who actively participated in the dehumanization and persecution of Ugandans will individually be held accountable and face the consequences of their actions,” he said.

He concluded with a message of solidarity, urging Mutwe to remain strong as legal and political pressure continues for his release.

Mutwe’s case remains before court, with proceedings ongoing amid heightened political scrutiny and competing claims between state prosecutors and the defence team.
