Ten Butaleja District staff members are set to face investigations over allegations of corruption and other related crimes following an inspection of government projects in the district.
Minister for Local Government Balaam Ateenyi said the investigations followed findings made during an inspection tour conducted on Tuesday to assess the implementation of government projects and the use of public resources.
Ateenyi said he monitored and inspected several government projects in Butaleja District alongside Hon. Eng. John Bosco Waluswaka, Woman Member of Parliament Sarah Logose, the LC5 Chairman, district political leaders and members of the district security team.
The inspection was aimed at determining whether government programmes were being implemented as intended and whether resources allocated to the district were reaching their intended beneficiaries.
“Our focus is to ensure that government programs and resources reach the intended beneficiaries and that public funds are protected,” Ateenyi said.
According to the minister, the inspection uncovered issues that warrant further investigation involving 10 district employees.
He said the officials would be subjected to investigations over suspected corruption and other related offences, with those found responsible expected to face legal action.
“Those found culpable will face the law in accordance with due process,” Ateenyi said.
The minister did not disclose the identities of the officials or provide details of the specific allegations against each staff member.
The move comes as the Ugandan government continues to emphasise accountability in the management of public funds and delivery of government programmes at the local level.
Ateenyi said the fight against corruption should extend to every level of government, warning officials entrusted with public resources that they must remain accountable for their actions.
“The fight against corruption must continue at every level. Public resources belong to the people, and anyone entrusted with them must be held accountable,” he said.
The investigations are expected to establish whether the allegations against the 10 staff members are substantiated. Any subsequent prosecution or disciplinary action will depend on the outcome of the investigations and applicable legal procedures.
