Activist Justice Hunter has entered the debate over the Speakership race, criticising both Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao and Speaker Anita Among in remarks that have triggered renewed political discussion online.

Hunter questioned Mao’s ability to lead an anti-corruption agenda in Parliament, arguing that his performance in government raises doubts about his suitability for the position.

“If Norbert Mao has failed to fight corruption under his ministry, which is arguably the most corrupt, you expect him to miraculously fight corruption in Parliament when ‘voted’ as Speaker?” he said.

He also raised concerns about campaign spending linked to politicians associated with Mao, claiming that large sums were used during recent electoral activities.

“Mao’s partner spent UGX 1.4 billion on campaign T-shirts alone. Where was your outrage? How much in total do you think they spent since both ran for different elective positions? Where did their campaign funds come from?” he posed.

Hunter expanded his criticism to include Speaker Anita Among, saying both candidates are part of a wider system that cannot be separated from corruption allegations.

“You can’t replace corruption with corruption to fight corruption! Anita Among and Mao are both in the same boat of corruption. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan outrage is background noise,” he stated.

He further alleged that political funding networks involving influential figures cut across government and the military establishment, although he did not provide evidence for the claims.

“Salim Saleh who funds Mao gets money from the corrupt Speaker, same with Museveni and Muhoozi. This network of corruption is just fooling you,” he said.

Hunter also expressed personal criticism of Speaker Among but dismissed Mao’s chances of securing the Speakership.

“Yes, I hate Among but realistically, the probability of Mao becoming Speaker is zero,” he added.
