The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) convened a key meeting with representatives of all nominated presidential candidates to harmonise campaign activities ahead of the official campaign period.

The session, chaired by Acting Secretary Richard Baabo Kamugisha, offered a structured forum for candidates’ teams to present their proposed schedules.

The Commission facilitated discussions aimed at resolving potential overlaps and conflicts in venues and dates, ensuring a smooth and orderly campaign process.

“The purpose of this coordination is to promote fairness, transparency, and peaceful conduct of campaigns across the country,” Kamugisha said during the meeting.

He emphasized that the Commission remains committed to providing equal opportunities to all candidates, in full compliance with Uganda’s electoral laws and guidelines.

The initiative is seen as a proactive step to prevent clashes and misunderstandings that could disrupt campaign activities.

By synchronizing events, the EC aims to create a level playing field for all presidential contenders, allowing voters to engage with candidates without confusion or logistical issues.

Presidential campaigns are officially set to begin on 29th September 2025, marking the start of an intensified political season ahead of next year’s elections.

Political stakeholders are expected to continue close engagement with the Commission to ensure that the campaign period is conducted peacefully and transparently.

The Electoral Commission has reiterated its call for all candidates and their supporters to adhere to campaign rules, stressing that any breaches will be dealt with according to the law.

With less than a week to the official start of campaigns, attention now turns to how candidates implement their schedules and engage voters while maintaining a spirit of fairness and cooperation promoted by the Commission.
