New remarks posted on X by Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, have reignited diplomatic sensitivities with Türkiye after a series of messages targeting the country, its embassy, and its nationals.
The posts, shared on Thursday, May 28, contained a mix of personal remarks, accusations, and warnings that have drawn attention both locally and internationally.
In the messages, Muhoozi referenced earlier tensions with Turkish actors and suggested that Uganda had taken a firm position in response.
One of the posts read:
“After marrying a few Turkish women I'm ready for their terms of surrender.”
He followed with another statement alleging pressure on Turkish-linked interests in Uganda:
“The Turks turned out to be cowards, after I threatened their contracts in Uganda.”
He also issued further warnings, saying:
“Now that they know we are real men, and we don't fear them at all. I want my demands met or we will teach them more lessons.”
In a separate message, he directly referenced diplomatic personnel:
“The Turkish Ambassador better be in hiding.”
The posts escalated further with allegations of insults and demands for apology. He wrote:
“After calling me a monkey, and calling Ugandans slaves the COWARDLY and DISREPUTABLE Turks have retreated behind a wall of silence. They are utterly repugnant and they must apologize for their insults against Uganda!”
He also called for mobilisation linked to a political pressure group, stating:
“All of PLU is instructed to hold a demonstration at the Turkish Embassy soon.”
The statement refers to the Patriotic League of Uganda, which has previously been associated with Muhoozi’s political messaging and mobilisation efforts.
Diplomatic background
The latest posts come amid already sensitive relations between Kampala and Ankara.
Earlier exchanges involving Muhoozi reportedly included demands related to Uganda’s regional security role and threats involving Turkish contracts and aviation interests, prompting concern from diplomatic observers.
Türkiye, officially the Republic of Turkey, has maintained cooperation with Uganda in trade, infrastructure development, and diplomatic engagement, making the tone of the exchanges particularly sensitive for bilateral relations.
