Questions over the health of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among have emerged following public remarks by former Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, who alleges she is battling a serious medical condition affecting her mobility.

Nsereko made the claims during a live TikTok broadcast, where he suggested that the former Speaker is suffering from complications linked to blood clots in her legs.

He further claimed that her condition has deteriorated to the point where she is unable to walk, although he did not present medical records or independent confirmation.

According to his remarks, Among’s condition has resulted in significant swelling in her legs, which he described as severe and potentially life-threatening if not urgently treated.

The statements quickly spread across social media, triggering discussion among political supporters and critics.

In his broadcast, Nsereko said he had personally observed what he described as worrying physical signs.

“Rt Hon Anita Annet Among is very sickly. She has a blood clot in her legs, she cannot walk. It is terrible; what I have seen,” he stated.

He added that the condition appeared advanced, claiming, “The legs are all swollen. She cannot walk. Why not let her go to hospital? I don't know how long she can live without treatment. What happened to mercy in this world?”

The remarks come at a time when Nsereko also drew parallels with the case of jailed lawyer and former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, arguing that political figures in different circumstances appear to face inconsistent treatment when dealing with health or legal challenges.

He criticized what he described as selective compassion, saying that even individuals who have previously worked with the government are not spared from what he termed “pressure,” while others outside the system face legal or political consequences.

“On one side they are persecuting Lukwago who did not work with them; yet on the other, even those who have worked with them are also being pinched,” Nsereko said during the broadcast.
