Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced plans to overhaul the leadership structure of the Patriotic League of Uganda Central Committee in the coming months, signaling a strategic shift within the movement.
In a statement issued on social media, Muhoozi said the current leadership had fulfilled its mandate, paving the way for a new team to address emerging priorities.
“In the next few months I will appoint a new membership of the Central Committee of PLU,” he stated. “We achieved what we set out for with the previous team. The new challenges that face us need a fresh team.”
He emphasized that the planned changes are aimed at strengthening the movement’s internal capacity and responsiveness.
According to him, the existing Central Committee successfully delivered on its initial objectives, but evolving political and organizational demands require renewed leadership to sustain momentum and expand influence.
Muhoozi further underscored the importance of alignment between PLU and its key political partner, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), stressing that the alliance is grounded in delivering tangible outcomes for citizens.
“PLU’s strategic alliance with NRM is based on achieving results for our people,” he said. “Our members in the cabinet and parliament must follow the President’s instructions to return to the grassroots and effectively monitor government programmes.”
He added that closer coordination between PLU leaders and state structures is essential for improving service delivery and ensuring that government initiatives reach local communities efficiently.
In his remarks, he also issued a directive to PLU members serving in cabinet and Parliament, urging them to closely follow presidential guidance and intensify engagement at the grassroots level.
He stated that leaders must actively monitor government programmes to ensure effective implementation and accountability, particularly at community level.
The announcement is expected to trigger internal reorganization within PLU as attention shifts toward identifying new Central Committee members.
While no specific timelines have been provided, Muhoozi indicated that the changes will unfold over the next few months, suggesting a phased transition.
