Minister for Local Government, Balaam Ateenyi, has welcomed recent leadership changes within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), following an announcement by Chief of Defence Forces and PLU chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The reshuffle saw Hon. Fadil Twalla appointed as the new Secretary General, replacing Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda.

In a statement shared shortly after the announcement, Ateenyi expressed gratitude to Muhoozi for what he described as a strategic appointment aimed at strengthening the movement’s leadership.

He congratulated Twalla on what he termed a “well-deserved” role, citing his dedication, patriotism, and commitment to national service.

“Thank you, Supreme Leader General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for appointing Hon. Fadil Twalla as the General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda,” Ateenyi said. “This recognition reflects your dedication, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to serving our nation.”

General Muhoozi, in his earlier communication, confirmed that he would work closely with Twalla to advance the objectives of PLU. He also acknowledged the outgoing Secretary General, Daudi Kabanda, for his service over the past three years, noting that he had set a high standard for the position.

Ateenyi further described Twalla as a close associate and expressed confidence in his ability to execute the responsibilities of the office.

He emphasized the importance of leadership continuity and cohesion within PLU as the organization seeks to expand its influence.

“As you assume this important responsibility, may God grant you wisdom, strength, and integrity to lead effectively and contribute meaningfully to the growth and success of the Patriotic League of Uganda and our beloved country,” Ateenyi added.

The leadership changes come at a time when PLU continues to position itself as a significant political force in Uganda’s evolving landscape.

Twalla’s appointment is expected to play a key role in shaping PLU’s administrative and mobilization strategies in the coming months, as the organization recalibrates its leadership structure under Muhoozi’s direction.
