Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly commented on the health condition of detained Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who is currently receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

In a brief statement, Muhoozi dismissed claims about the severity of Lukwago’s illness.

“Lukwago can be as SICK as he can pretend! He is going NOWHERE! If he wants to die, I will take responsibility!”

The remarks come shortly after Lukwago’s lawyer, Medard Lubega Sseggona, provided an update indicating that his client was taken to hospital from detention due to deteriorating health.

According to Sseggona, Lukwago is experiencing severe pain, particularly in the area where he previously underwent surgery in India, and remains physically weak.

“He is in pain. He is weak. We need prayers. The doctors and experts at Mulago have done a wonderful job. They are managing the situation to the extent that they can,” Sseggona said after visiting him.

The lawyer also confirmed that a number of medical tests had been conducted, although results were not yet available at the time of his departure from the hospital.

He noted that the pending results would guide further medical decisions regarding Lukwago’s treatment.

“A number of tests have been conducted, and we haven't received the results, at least by the time I left earlier this afternoon,” he added.

Lukwago was reportedly transferred to Mulago Hospital while still under detention, prompting concern among his legal team and supporters about his access to medical care while in custody.
