Igara East MP Michael Mawanda has welcomed his retention on the Central Committee of the Patriotic League Uganda (PLU), expressing appreciation to CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba following the announcement of a leadership restructuring within the political movement.
Mawanda’s remarks came shortly after Muhoozi confirmed plans to overhaul the PLU Central Committee in the coming months, while retaining a select group of members to continue steering the organisation through what he described as “new challenges.”
In a brief statement shared in response to the announcement, Mawanda expressed gratitude for being retained in the leadership structure, pledging continued commitment to the movement’s objectives and its long-term vision.
“Thank you, Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for retaining me on the PLU Central Committee,” Mawanda said.
“I pledge my loyalty to the cause and to your leadership as we build a stronger, more dignified Uganda. God bless Uganda! God bless PLU!”
The PLU, a political mobilisation platform associated with Muhoozi’s growing influence in Uganda’s political landscape, is expected to undergo significant structural changes as part of the planned reconstitution of its Central Committee.
Muhoozi indicated that the current leadership team had “achieved what we set out for,” and that a refreshed lineup was now necessary to address emerging priorities.
Mawanda is among a small group of figures confirmed to retain their positions in the upcoming committee. Others include Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, and political commentator Andrew Mwenda.
The rest of the committee members are expected to be announced in due course.
The restructuring has drawn attention in political circles, as PLU continues to position itself as a key platform within Uganda’s broader political mobilisation space.
