“Two Drones Over My Home” — Lawyer Erias Lukwago Alleges Security Clampdown Amid Besigye- Muhoozi Legal Battle

Erias Lukwago, the lawyer representing detained opposition figure Kizza Besigye, has raised alarm over what he describes as heightened security surveillance around his residence, alleging that two drones were deployed and security operatives positioned nearby.

In a social media post, Lukwago claimed his home had been effectively sealed off, though he did not provide independent verification of the incident.

"TWO DRONES HAVE SEALED OFF MY HOME WITH SECURITY OPERATIVES HOVERING AROUND," Lukwago posted on Facebook.

The statement has sparked renewed attention on the legal and political tensions surrounding Besigye’s detention and ongoing court challenges involving senior security officials.

According to previous filings, Lukwago recently lodged a lawsuit on behalf of Besigye, challenging actions linked to Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in a case that has drawn significant public and political scrutiny.

The petition raises questions over alleged violations of constitutional rights, with the legal team arguing that the detention of the opposition leader lacks sufficient legal justification.

Security developments around Lukwago’s residence come amid heightened political tension in Uganda, where opposition figures and their legal representatives have increasingly reported surveillance and movement restrictions.

Civil society actors have previously expressed concern over what they describe as shrinking civic space, although state authorities maintain that security operations are conducted within the law.

The latest allegation is likely to intensify debate over the balance between national security and individual rights in politically sensitive cases.

Besigye, a long-time opposition leader, has faced multiple arrests and court proceedings over the years, making his ongoing detention one of the most closely watched political cases in the region.
